Grandpa's ancestors moved directly from Plymouth Colony to Vermont, where he grew up.

Paul Smith, my grandpa, grew up with his brother, James (Jimmy) and his sister, Nancy. Their parents were Harry Edmund Smith and Agnes Howe. Agnes was born and raised in Vermont, but her parents are from Co. Clare, Ireland. Harry Edmund Smith's family was in Vermont and Canada for generations back.

My 6th Great-Grandparents were the first to arrive in Vermont. Simeon Bradford was born in Plymouth in 1729 and then wife Phebe Whiton was born 1736. They were married in 1755 in Plymouth, according to Massachusetts Marriage Records. The first record of them in Vermont is a census in 1790. Therefore, they likely moved right before Vermont became the 14th state in 1791.
